Ridly Greig’s season may be over, but the fallout from Ottawa’s ugly first-round exit is just beginning.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Sunday that Greig will have a hearing for roughing Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker after a chaotic finish to Game 4 on Saturday. A date and time for the hearing have not yet been announced.
The incident unfolded during a late scrum involving Greig, teammate Warren Foegele, and Walker. As Foegele had Walker tied up in a headlock, Greig came in and landed a sucker punch on the Hurricanes blueliner.
No penalty was assessed on the play. Any suspension or supplemental discipline issued to Greig would be served at the start of next season.
Ottawa’s 4-3 loss completed a first-round sweep at the hands of Carolina, sending the Senators into the offseason on a sour and controversial note.
