After Quinn Hughes and Brady Tkachuk went from being captains of Canadian teams to stars on American clubs, there's been an emerging debate - for better or worse - about whether Canadian NHL teams should be more cautious about thinking their American stars will play on their squad for most of their careers.

Keep in mind, Matthew Tkachuk was also traded from Calgary to Florida in the past as well.

Ultimately, I think every NHL player is an individual with their own specific preferences. Just because some American stars want to go to the U.S. doesn't automatically mean all Americans stars do. We must ultimately respect that instead of starting to assume every American star wants to leave their Canadian team and make speculation out of that. Brady Tkachuk even said himself the rumors and speculation became a distraction, and the Sens reportedly might have agreed.
