Josh Doan signed a seven-year contract extension with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. His new deal carries a cap hit of $6.95 million.

He has 35 points in 49 games, nearly double the 19 points he recorded in 51 games last season with the Utah Hockey Club. In late June, Utah traded him with Michael Kesselring to the Sabres in exchange for JJ Peterka, who signed a five-year contract worth $7.7 million annually.

Peterka has 32 points in 49 games for the Mammoth this season. Hindsight is 20/20, but the question has to be asked: would you have traded Josh Doan if you were in Utah's front office?

I think the stats this season say one thing, but at the time, I think it made a good amount of sense for the Mammoth to make that trade. They're trying to make the playoffs right now and found a young forward with more NHL experience in Peterka.

Anyway, let us know your thoughts right here in The Hockey News Community forum.
