The Home Run Derby went down on Monday night during the MLB's all-star festivities.

The NHL's had the all-star skills competition before the ASG for decades, but I wonder whether there's any event that comes remotely close to the hype of the Home Run Derby.

I'd say the marquee event of the skills competition for me is the hardest shot competition, but that was when Zdeno Chara and Shea Weber were going head-to-head. It hasn't felt the same since.

The same goes for the breakaway challenge, which the league doesn't even include regularly anymore. The last time it happened was in 2023, and it was pretty subpar (give me a skilled deke, not five minutes of choreography).
