Acquired over the weekend from Arizona, Conor Garland has signed a five-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks worth $4.95 million a season.
Just 25, Garland was a key piece of Arizona's offense the past few seasons, recording 39 points in 49 games last season and a career-high 22 goals the year before.
On Friday, the Canucks sent Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussell and Loui Eriksson, the ninth-overall pick on Friday, a second-round pick in 2022 and an additional seventh-rounder in exchange for Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Garland.
While the Ekman-Larsson portion of the deal was scrutinized, most believed Garland – who should factor into the team's top six – had the potential to become the best player involved in the trade.
Garland's signing comes shortly after it was announced that the Canucks were buying out Braden Holtby's contract with one-year left at $4.3 million.
