As Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand plays his 1,000th NHL game on Tuesday, Ken Campbell discusses what it would take for the forward to be a Hockey Hall of Famer.

It’s hard to believe Brad Marchand has been scoring, winning and driving people crazy for 1,000 games. With him set to play his milestone game Tuesday night, we’re left with a rather vexing question. Is it possible he could end up in the Hockey Hall of Fame someday?
Well, first thing is I’ve given up on trying to decide who gets into the Hall of Fame and who doesn’t. It’s subject to the 18-person selection committee. If three-quarters of them decide that someone had a Hall of Fame career, they are in. If not, well, maybe someday. Maybe never.
You could certainly argue he has Hall of Fame credentials, ones that could be cemented in the coming years. He’ll likely get 1,000 points, and he has a shot at 500 goals. He has one Stanley Cup and has been a first- or second-team all-star four times.
Marchand’s got a very good international resume, but what he does over the next couple of years will likely determine whether or not he’s a shoo-in. First, if he can keep his game elevated enough to go to the 2026 Olympics and win a gold medal with Canada, that will help. It will also get him into the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Triple Gold Club. And if he manages to captain the Bruins to a Stanley Cup championship before he retires, that ices it.
