The Arizona Coyotes have executed a letter of intent to purchase land in Mesa, Arizona on which to build a new arena.

The Arizona Coyotes are once again attempting to secure hockey's future in the desert, as the club announced on Wednesday its intent to purchase land in Mesa, Arizona on which to build a new arena.
"We can confirm that Coyotes Owner, Chairman & Governor Alex Meruelo has executed a Letter of Intent to purchase a parcel of land located in Mesa, Arizona to be the potential site for a sports arena and entertainment district for the Club," said the Coyotes in a statement released on Wednesday.
"The Coyotes remain committed to building the first privately funded sports facility in Arizona history and ensuring the Valley as the Club's permanent home. In addition to this property in Mesa, the Club will continue to explore other potential sites in the East Valley."
This new arena plan comes mere months after the Coyotes failed to garner public support to build a potential new sports entertainment district in Tempe, Arizona, as the citizens of Tempe voted against the project following months of campaigning by the club and even NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
With their future in flux, the Coyotes will once again use Mullet Arena as their home rink for the 2023-24 season, sharing the collegiate facility with Arizona State University.
Time will tell if these latest efforts to find a home will prove fruitful for the Coyotes. But after years of turmoil, it could be their final chance.
