The Arizona Coyotes are staying in the desert for the time being, and so is their GM.

The Coyotes got some important business done on Wednesday, agreeing to terms with GM Bill Armstrong on a multi-year contract extension. Per the team's official statement, the details of the contract will remain undisclosed.

Armstrong is heading into his fourth season at the helm of the Coyotes since being hired back in September 2020. During his time as GM, the Coyotes have undergone one of the more aggressive rebuilds in recent memory, compiling a massive stockpile of draft picks and prospects with which to build for the future.

During the 2023 off-season, Armstrong signed top prospect Logan Cooley to an entry-level deal, as well as veterans Jason Zucker, Alex Kerfoot, Matt Dumba, Nick Bjugstad, Troy Stecher and Travis Dermott. The Coyotes also selected Daniil But and Dmitriy Simashev in the first round of the NHL draft in Nashville back in June.

Prior to joining the Coyotes, Armstrong worked as the assistant GM and director of amateur scouting for the St. Louis Blues, playing a key role in building the team that would ultimately win the 2019 Stanley Cup.

"For the past three years, Bill has done an excellent job restructuring our hockey operations department and rebuilding our hockey team,” said Coyotes owner, chairman, and governor Alex Meruelo in a statement released on Wednesday.

"He has acquired elite talent through the draft, trades, and free agency, and has established a winning culture by adding a great coaching staff and other key hockey operations personnel. I am confident that under his leadership, the Coyotes will soon become a perennial playoff team and we will continue to work towards our goal of bringing a Stanley Cup to the Valley."

The Coyotes finished last season with a 28-40-14 record, which ranked them 27th in the NHL and seventh in the Central Division.
