Desjardins makes 26 saves as Bulldogs blank Marlies 2-0

HAMILTON - Hamilton goaltender Cedrick Desjardins made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Bulldogs blanked the Toronto Marlies 2-0 on Friday night in American Hockey League action.

The game was scoreless until the third period, when Ben Maxwell was sent in on a breakaway by Sergei Kostitsyn and snapped a shot between the legs of Marlies goalie Justin Pogge at the 4:06 mark. It was Maxwell's 17th goal of the season. Ryan Russell added an empty-netter for the Bulldogs (38-23-2-0) at 19:59 of the third.

Pogge made 15 saves for the Marlies (31-24-2-5) in a losing cause.

The shutout was Hamilton's 10th this season, only two behind the franchise record set during the 2002-03 season.
