Detroit Red Wings re-sign defenceman Derek Meech to one-year deal

DETROIT - Defenceman Derek Meech has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

The team announced the deal Thursday. Details were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old from Winnipeg was Detroit's seventh-round pick in the 2002 NHL draft.

He played in 49 games for Detroit last season, with two goals and four assists.

He has 16 points in 126 career NHL games.
