    Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving pointed out that "it's not fantasy hockey," and he's right. But it's incumbent upon him to get in front of the market if he's looking for another pivot.

    Even if John Tavares, who is having a wonderful season, hadn't been injured in practice the other day, the Leafs would still be looking for depth at the center position. GM Brad Treliving all but screamed just that from the rooftops when he met with the media recently.

    So now that Tavares actually is injured, would it not behoove Treliving to get out in front of the trade deadline market and make a deal for one of the players he's pursuing now rather than later?

    Absolutely, it would. The Maple Leafs have precious little cap space here, so it's going to take some creative thinking from Treliving and his staff. It's not fantasy hockey – he's right. But he's not a fantasy hockey GM either – he's a real one. And this is what he's paid to do.
