The wait is over – the Anaheim Ducks re-signed RFA Trevor Zegras to a three-year contract.

While the team didn't disclose financial details, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported the deal is worth $5.75 million per year.

Zegras, 22, is coming off another career-best season in his young career, putting up 23 goals and 42 assists for 65 points in 81 games. The 2019 No. 9 draft pick has had 49 goals and 139 points in 180 career NHL games.

“We are very pleased to be able to get Trevor signed and back on the ice where he belongs,” Ducks GM Pat Verbeek said in a statement. “We view Trevor as a critical and valued player and member of our organization and can’t wait to see the next chapter in his career.”

Zegras and defenseman Jamie Drysdale were Anaheim's two RFAs who had sat out training camp and the pre-season to this point while seeking a new contract. With Zegras signed, the Ducks can now turn their full attention to signing 21-year-old Drysdale.

Zegras is one of the most skilled young players in the NHL, dazzling fans on a nightly basis with his flashy moves and remarkable hockey sense. Given how the Ducks are still in the midst of a rebuild, Zegras has been faced with immense responsibility since debuting in the big leagues and has never had much in terms of established talent to play alongside. That appears like it'll change this season, however, with the Ducks having made a splash in free agency and a number of top prospects starting to break through onto the NHL roster. With a new and improved supporting cast, Zegras could be primed for a career year in 2023-24, perhaps even taking the next step into stardom and positioning himself for quite the pay raise once his new three-year deal expires.

Regardless, Ducks fans can breathe easy now knowing their potential franchise face is finally back in the fold.
