Edmonton Oilers centre Sam Gagner named NHL rookie of the month

NEW YORK - Edmonton Oilers centre Sam Gagner is the NHL's rookie of the month for February.

He led all rookies in scoring last month with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 12 games. Gagner, 18, edged New York Rangers centre Brandon Dubinsky, Phoenix Coyotes centre Peter Mueller, Chicago Blackhawks centre Jonathan Toews and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price for the award.

Gagner, a native of London, Ont., was selected by Edmonton with the sixth overall pick at the 2007 NHL entry draft.
