The Norris is heading back to the Karlsson house.
San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson has been named the winner of the 2022-23 Norris Trophy as the NHL's most outstanding defender, beating out a pair of compelling finalists in the New York Rangers' Adam Fox and Colorado's Cale Makar.
Karlsson was a whole different level in 2022-23, putting up numbers that many did not expect possible from defensemen in the Modern Era. The 32-year-old had a resurgence for the ages last season, exploding on the scene for 25 goals and 76 assists for 101 points in 82 games to become the first defender since Brian Leetch in 1991-92 to break the 100-point plateau and etch his name in a very exclusive group in NHL history.
Karlsson was the engine for the entire Sharks roster, leading the way offensively while also logging nearly 26 minutes in average nightly ice time.
This is Karlsson's third career Norris win, having captured the previous two while a member of the Ottawa Senators.
