DJ Baby Yu has worked with the biggest stars in hip hop, from Jay Z and Kanye West to Snoop Dogg and Young Jeezy. And while he’s headquartered in Atlanta now, he’s originally from Toronto – meaning he’s a fan of the Maple Leafs and hockey in general.

But just because he’s from Canada, doesn’t mean the sport was always second nature.

“I grew up in traditionally Japanese culture,” Yu said. “But when I was seven years old, my dad thought I needed to do something more Canadian, so he signed me up for hockey. I didn’t know anything. He put me in a summer league and if I ever touched the puck, I just iced it.”

It's much different now. Yu would go to Thrashers games when the team was still in Atlanta and likes to mention hockey on the radio. He’s a big Sidney Crosby fan and likes the way the Maple Leafs progressed last season, though talking puck with rappers is tough.

“It’s very, very rare,” he said. “Unless I talk to artists from like, Philly or Chicago or Canada.”

Home Team Scores: “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana – “In high school, that was one of the hypest mosh pit songs.”

Visiting Team Scores: “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper – “Yeah, the other team’s a bunch of girls, right?”

Fight Between Enforcers: “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas – “So many come to mind. The theme from Rocky would be another good one.”

Visiting Team Penalty: “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons – “Everybody whines. And they always have that shrug look.”

Home Team Wins Game: “Power of Love” By Huey Lewis & The News – “Big song. It’s from my favorite ’80s movie, Back to the Future.”
