When the University of New Brunswick Reds won the U Sports University Cup in 2023, they were back on the ice a week later in a quest to win another.

    Mission accomplished, and how.

If you’re looking for a season of pure perfection from start to finish, look no further than Canada’s Maritime province, where hockey’s newest dynasty resides, along with the most dominant team in Canadian university men's hockey history.

When UNB finished the University Cup with a 4-0 win over University of Quebec Trois-Rivieres on Sunday night in Toronto, it put a bow on a perfect season and a perfect national championship.

Seriously, it was flawless. UNB went a perfect 30-0-0 in league play, then won all five of its league playoff games before sweeping the national tournament. Not only did the Reds go 3-0-0 in the University Cup, but they did so without giving up a single goal. Not. A. Single. Goal.

Including regular season and playoffs, the Reds went 38-0-0 this season and outscored their opponents 211-53. They haven’t lost a game in more than a calendar year.

And their national championship is the fifth in the past seven, which genuinely qualifies it as a dynasty.

Since taking over the head coaching job at UNB in 2000-01, coach Gardiner MacDougall has won nine national titles, tying him with former University of Toronto coach Tom Watt for the most in Canadian university hockey history. He also won his 600th game this past season and is the all-time winningest coach in Canadian university history.

Here's more from Toronto on the ice where UNB won it all in 2024:
