The backlash against Hockey Night in Canada analyst Jennifer Botterill has been as brutal and uncalled-for as predictable for her take on Arber Xhekaj's knee-on-knee against Noel Acciari, says Ken Campbell.

Death, taxes, the swallows flocking to Capistrano and anyone – especially a woman – getting vilified for having an anti-establishment hockey opinion are some of the most iron-clad certainties in life.

Such was the case Saturday night, when Jennifer Botterill suggested to fellow analysts Kevin Bieksa and Luke Gazdic that there might be another way to deal with the Noel Acciari high hit on Juraj Slavkovsky than to have Arber Xhekaj try to take out Acciari's knee late in the game.

It's an eye-for-an-eye, it's the NHL, deal with it, Gazdic and Bieksa basically said. And there's nothing wrong with that. They have their opinions (however misguided, in my opinion) that the only way for players to conduct themselves is according to some nebulous code that seems to change with different circumstances. Gazdic and Bieksa were respectful in their disagreement, and they expressed that.

But the keyboard warriors who got all triggered were in full force. And it was pathetic. It's a panel, which is a free-flowing exchange of ideas and opinions. Be better, people.
