If Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby decides to retire at the age of 39 after his current contract expires in 2026-27, there is no doubt he'll go down as one of the greatest players the NHL and game has ever seen. Unfortunately, that might not even make him the greatest on his own team.

Or perhaps it does. With Crosby one point away from 1,600 for his career, is it not time to at least have the conversation about the possibility of Crosby finishing ahead of Mario Lemieux among the Penguins' all-time greats?
