Is the Pierre-Luc Dubois Contract Among the Worst in the NHL Today?

After his performance in the regular season and the first round of the playoffs, you could certainly make the case for that, says Ken Campbell. What do the Kings do now?

Campbell: What Should the Kings Do with Pierre-Luc Dubois?

When the Los Angeles Kings traded for and signed Pierre-Luc Dubois to an eight-year contract worth $8.5 million annually last summer, they probably thought they were getting an heir apparent to Anze Kopitar.

After the first year of that deal, which ended with Dubois and the Kings losing in five games to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the playoffs, they look like they got the heir apparent to...Jonathan Huberdeau?

This season was a disaster for both Dubois and the Kings. Now both are faced with seven years remaining in a relationship that can only be ended at this point by an expensive and onerous buyout. Do the Kings make that move, or do they try to make it work with Dubois in the long term and hope he'll improve just like he did after his first year with the Winnipeg Jets?
