It's Official: Maple Leafs' William Nylander Is The Fonzie Of The NHL
With his recent comments, followed up by his performance in the Leafs' OT win Thursday, Nylander has proved he's the coolest cucumber in hockey, says Ken Campbell.
That was so, so like William Nylander, a.k.a. 'Slick Willy'. Behind all that skill and enigmatic personality, slowly and methodically beats the heart of the guy who is the coolest player in the NHL.
And if you had any doubt, all you had to do was watch him score two goals, including the overtime-winner on a breakaway, in the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils Thursday night. To be sure, Devils coach Sheldon Keefe, who was hoping to steal a victory in his first game back in Toronto, has seen that act before.
A day after pooh-poohing the notion that there was anything to worry about over a three-game losing streak, Nylander then went out and backed up his words with a vintage William Nylander performance.
