Dylan SambergThe Winnipeg Jets continued their busy off-season on Wednesday afternoon, re-signing defenseman Dylan Samberg to a two-year, one-way contract worth $1.4 million per season.
This is Samberg's first one-way deal after completing his entry-level contract.
The 24-year-old from Saginaw, Minn., is coming off two goals and six assists for eight points in 63 games with the Jets in 2022-23. The 2017 second-round pick also played 15 games in 2021-22 for career totals of 11 helpers and 13 points in 78 games.
At 6-foot-4 and 219 pounds, Samberg averaged 14:56 per game in ice time this past season, and he recorded 91 hits in that span. His 5.8 hits per 60 minutes rank second among Jets blueliners with at least 60 games played, and his 5.93 blocks per 60 rank first, with 93 total. Samberg was also often a fixture on the Jets' penalty kill.
Winnipeg now has six signed defensemen on its active roster, with RFA Logan Stanley still unsigned. The six D-men do not include 2019 first-round pick Ville Heinola, who shoots left like Samberg but only managed an assist and a minus-5 rating in 10 NHL games this season.
The Jets have about $9.3 million in cap space with 19 signed players, but the NHLPA announced on Wednesday that forwards Gabriel Vilardi and Morgan Barron elected for salary arbitration.
Earlier in the day, the Jets also signed OHL goaltender of the year Domenic DiVincentiis to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 19-year-old was a seventh-round pick in 2022 and posted a 36-9-2 record for the OHL's North Bay Battalion with a 2.33 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and five shutouts.
