One of the NHL's most underrated players is getting paid.

On Thursday evening, the Los Angeles Kings got to work securing their forward corps for the future, agreeing to terms with Trevor Moore on a five-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $4.2 million.

The deal, which ties Moore to Los Angeles through the 2027-28 campaign, does not include any trade protection and kicks in ahead of next season, as Moore is on the final year of his current contract at a cap hit of $1.875 million.

Moore's story is one of the best in the NHL today.

Going undrafted all through college, Moore accepted an invite to the Toronto Maple Leafs' development camp in 2016 and managed to earn himself a contract by the end of the weekend. From there, Moore would only continue to flourish in Toronto's minor league system in the years ahead, helping the club's AHL affiliate capture their first ever Calder Cup in 2018 before graduating to the NHL full-time the next season.

After getting dealt to his hometown Kings in early 2020, Moore only further established himself as a premier role player on an up-and-coming team. In 81 games last season, Moore racked up an impressive 17 goals and 31 assists for 48 points while playing a primary role on the penalty kill and helping the Kings earn their way into the playoffs. The 27-year-old has managed to keep that momentum going into this season, as Moore currently sits with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 32 games while logging a career-best 17:40 in average nightly ice time.

With Moore under contract for the foreseeable future, the Kings can be confident that the middle-six of their lineup will always be anchored by an effective and versatile role player.
