Cannon City Quotables: Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Ottawa Senators

Last night, Johnny Gaudreau, Boone Jenner, and Elvis Merzlikins spoke to the media postgame. HC Pascal Vincent also gave his thoughts on the game.

Johnny Gaudreau - 2 assists, 1 shot, 19:19 TOI

  • You think it (a 2-0 lead) should be good.
  • We need to keep working on playing with leads and try to keep attacking.
  • Great kill by our guys, but just couldn't close in the shootout.
  • On Nylander: He's been doing great, love having him. He's doing a great job with our team.
  • We worked hard, we were ready, and we started on time.
  • We have to start closing them out and get those wins.
  • We need to work on playing with leads, we've been doing a better job.

Boone Jenner - 1 goal, 1 shot, 56.3% faceoffs, 21:52 TOI

  • We got to find a way to close those games out.
  • We get a big goal in the third, and then let them back into it.
  • I think we gave up a little bit too much in the third and they were able to capitalize.
  • As of late we've been good in those situations.
  • There was a lot to like about our game throughout the night.

Elvis Merzlikins - 35 saves, 8 power play saves

  • It was hard to get into the game. (Due to lack of playing time)
  • I really wanted the win. Tonight we played really great.
  • On Giroux's Slapshot in the shootout - That was a hell of a shot. Good for him. I did not expect that. It was hard and accurate and a good shot. I'm still thinking what should I do?
  • On losing a lead - It is frustrating because we wanted to win obviously.
  • I think we deserved to win.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent

  • We played our best period in the third. We had chances to put that game away.
  • Elvis was good.
  • I thought the third period was well played. Two missed assignments and the puck is in the back of your net.
  • I thought we should've won that game.
  • On AHL players in the lineup - The guys know them, it's not like they're new faces. Gaunce is a veteran, he's alert on the bench, he knows his role.
  • With those four new guys in the lineup today, we were in a position to win that game.
  • On Elvis - Elvis was really good tonight, really good.
  • Addressing Adam Boqvist's injury - He's going to be seen by a doctor.
  • I felt we approached the third period properly. We were in a good position to win that game.
  • If we play that way in the third period, we're going to win most of those games.
  • We were excited to have him (Nylander), we know he's got potential. We didn't know how he'd adjust, so far he's taking advantage.

What's Next - The Blue Jackets take on the San Jose Sharks Saturday at 7 p.m.
