I was right.
A week ago, I wrote how Utah Hockey Club could eventually adopt the moniker as a name.
They did -- for now.
With the sale of the Arizona Coyotes completed to the Smiths Thursday, Utah could finally announce their presence on social media.
(Don't worry, they'll be featured in Saturday Social tomorrow.)
They also announced their placeholder name, Utah Hockey Club, as well Thursday.
So, how close are we to deciding a name?
Some think Utah's name will be revealed when they announce their draft pick in Las Vegas in two weeks, just as the Winnipeg Jets did after their relocation from Atlanta in 2011.
However, Greg Wyshynski of ESPN reported yesterday there will likely be a third round in another month.
With six finalists, including Utah Hockey Club, still up for grabs, it will probably result in a third round of the last two or three names standing.
(My favorite is still Mammoth, by the way.)
It also means anything is possible -- including Utah HC becoming the permanent name.
As I wrote last week, Utah HC is not a bad idea. Utah will be on the jerseys, and Ryan Smith said the NHL team will be the Beehive State's own.
The color scheme is intentionally mirrored against the Jazz, as many noted.
And again, the chant you'll hear: "Let's go, Utah."
When you put it together, Utah HC sounds more attractive than people think.
But knowing the Smiths listen to their fans, it's unlikely to be what the people want.
