David Legwand, Detroit's de facto No. 1 center, will undoubtedly face disciplinary action from the NHL's head office after a brutal butt-end on Evgeni Malkin.

David Legwand butt-ended Evgeni Malkin late in the third period with Detroit tied 4-4 with Pittsburgh Thursday night. He received a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

The incident happened behind the play near the Red Wings goal. Malkin went down in a heap and struggled to make it back to the bench.

Detroit managed to kill off the penalty and win the game in overtime.
