"Legacy is never stagnant," the Los Angeles Kings said as they unveiled their new logos and wordmarks, with jerseys to come next week.

The Los Angeles Kings used a throwback logo as their alternate for the past two seasons. A new version of that is their new primary logo.

The Los Angeles Kings are throwing it back with their new logos.

The team announced their primary and secondary logos on Thursday morning, with jerseys to be unveiled next week.

"Legacy is never stagnant," the Kings said in their announcement. "It's a strong foundation, built upon with every new season."

The primary logo is mainly a throwback to the one they wore throughout the late 1980s and 1990s when Wayne Gretzky shone on the squad. They also used a version of that logo as their alternate for the past two seasons.

It contains the same angled shape and "Kings" wordmark with speedlines on a silver background. But instead of the crown at the bottom of the logo from the '90s version, the Kings were inspired by the crown from when they entered the NHL as an expansion team in 1967.

The secondary logo focuses on that original crown, but instead of the purple and gold colors, they translated it to black, silver and white.

The team said its new wordmarks were hand-drawn in a new font while modernizing the speedlines and angle from the '90s. The primary and tertiary wordmarks even feature a throwback to 1967 as well with what the Kings call their "kick k" descender.

The reveal comes one day after Los Angeles acquired goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Washington Capitals for center Pierre-Luc Dubois. The team created a stir when they used their then-alternate logo in graphics to thank Dubois for his time Los Angeles and welcome Kuemper back to the team he played 19 games with in 2017-18.

But soon after that, they teased the rebrand.

Los Angeles isn't the only California NHL team rebranding ahead of next season, either.

The Anaheim Ducks are currently teasing their rebrand, with a throwback to the popular Wild Wing logo and lots of orange.

With the NHL draft taking place on June 28 and 29 and new players donning the jerseys of the teams that selected them, it's likely the jerseys for both clubs will be on full display at then at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
