Montreal Canadiens sign forward Dale Weise to a two-year contractMONTREAL - The Canadiens have agreed to terms with forward Dale Weise on a two-year contract extension.
Weise, who scored the overtime winner in Montreal's first game of the playoffs against Tampa Bay, will reportedly earn a total of US$2 million over the next two seasons.
The 25-year-old dressed for 16 of the Habs' 17 playoff games and finished with three goals and four assists in a fourth-line role.
Weise had three goals and an assist in 17 games for Montreal after being acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks for defenceman Raphael Diaz.
The Winnipeg native, who earned the nickname "Dutch Gretzky" for his stardom in the Netherlands during the lockout, has 30 points in 179 career NHL games.
Weise made $750,000 this past season and was set to become a restricted free agent July 1.
