The Toronto Maple Leafs may be in the midst of an 11 game slide, but Morgan Rielly did everything in his power to pull them out with an incredible individual effort on Saturday night. Rielly beat almost every Oiler on the ice for a highlight reel score.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently mired in an 11 game losing streak, but defenseman Morgan Rielly pulled out every move in his arsenal in an attempt to snap the slide.
With the Maple Leafs already up 2-0 over the visiting Oilers, Rielly blocked a shot by Edmonton winger Nail Yakupov, and the rest is highlight reel material. After the block, he gathered the puck, skated through the neutral zone, cut into the middle, beat a pair of Oilers defenders, toe dragged around defenseman Andrew Ference, and buried the puck top shelf.
Edmonton goaltender Viktor Fasth had absolutely no chance, as Rielly picked the one spot that the Swedish netminder couldn't have stopped the puck. The goal, Rielly’s fifth of the season, came just seconds after Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle clanked the post on a breakaway.
Coming into the evening, the Oilers had won just two of their last five games and sat last in the Western Conference with 37 points in 52 games.
