The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Jesper Bratt to a massive eight-year contract extension that runs through 2030-31.

The off-season has barely started, and the New Jersey Devils are already getting down to business.
The Devils finally locked in one of their key RFA on Thursday, agreeing to terms with forward Jesper Bratt on an eight-year contract worth an average annual value of $7.875 million. In a cheeky little twist, the entire contract adds up to a total of $63 million, which happens to be Bratt's jersey number.
Bratt's contract breakdown is $10 million in 2023-24, $9 million for each of 2024-25 and 2025-26, $8 million for 2026-27, $7.2 million for each of the two seasons afterward, $6.6 million in 2029-30 and $6 million in 2030-31.
Bratt has turned into a top-line forward on the Devils in the past two seasons, recording 73 points in 76 games last year and another 73 points in 82 games this year, including 32 goals.
The 24-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, has proven to be a legitimate offensive threat on a Devils team that is rounding into one of the most promising in the league. His penchant for dominating play in transition and scoring off the rush fits perfectly with coach Lindy Ruff's system.
With his services now locked in until 2030-31, the Devils will now enjoy the fruits of Bratt's entire prime years for the absolute bargain price of under $8 million per season.
It's an incredibly tidy piece of business for GM Tom Fitzgerald, who has shown no hesitation in swinging for the fences to make his team better.
Fitzgerald has already been at work in June, trading longtime Devils defenseman Damon Severson to the Columbus Blue Jackets last week. There's still a ton of work to do, with only 13 players under contract and seven more RFAs to deal with, including trade deadline acquisition Timo Meier. They have about $26.4 million in cap space after Bratt's extension, according to CapFriendly.
Let the off-season begin.
