The Vegas Golden Knights are the first team in this year's NHL playoffs to advance to the second round after beating the Winnipeg Jets in five games.

We finally have our first team advancing to the second round of the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs, and it's the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Golden Knights took care of business in the first elimination game of the series against the Winnipeg Jets, winning 4-1 in Thursday night's Game 5.
Winnipeg entered the playoffs as the second wild-card team in the West taking on the conference's top seed. The Jets made it interesting early, winning Game 1 in Vegas by a 5-1 score.
The Jets led after the first period of Game 2 as well, but it was Knight time ever since.
Vegas tied the series at 1-1 after taking a 5-2 victory. Game 3 featured back-and-forth hockey in Winnipeg, with the Jets coming back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game in the third and force overtime. Golden Knights forward Michael Amadio spoiled the whiteout festivities in Winnipeg with an overtime-winner in his fourth career NHL playoff game, giving Vegas a 2-1 lead.
Blake Wheeler gave Winnipeg an early lead in Game 4, but the Knights took control, scoring three straight and later adding an empty-netter to seal a 4-2 win.
That meant the Knights could seal the series on Thursday in front of a home crowd at T-Mobile Arena. All the Jets had to do is take each game once at a time and scrap out a win to potentially force a Game 7 the next match.
The puck dropped at center ice to start Game 5, and Vegas controlled right from the start. Knights captain Mark Stone capitalized on a failed clearance and found Chandler Stephenson for a tap-in past Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Just 50 seconds into the game, Vegas took the lead.
The Knights were even quicker to score in the second period, with Stone making it 2-0 Vegas 42 seconds into the frame. About four minutes later, Amadio found William Karlsson with a backhand pass through two Jets D-men for another one-timer into an open cage. Stephenson made it 4-0 with his second goal of the game.
Kyle Connor made it interesting in the third period with an empty net, cutting the lead to three. Winnipeg put on a valiant effort late in the game, but Vegas held down the fort to secure a 4-1 match win and a 4-1 series victory.
Vegas netminder Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves in the win against his former team. Hellebuyck, meanwhile, couldn't seem to find his footing after Game 1, stopping 21 of 25 shots for an .840 save percentage in the series finale.
Vegas will now face either the Edmonton Oilers or Los Angeles Kings in the second round, and the Jets now face an uncertain off-season, with Pierre-Luc Dubois and five others becoming RFAs. Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Brenden Dillon, Dylan DeMelo and Nino Niederreiter will also be heading into the final year of their deals before becoming UFAs.
Get ready, because the first-round eliminations have just gotten started.
