NHL Waivers: More Than 25 Players Placed On The Wire On Oct. 1

Nine NHL teams placed players on waivers on Tuesday, making them available to claim by the rest of the league.

    Who's impressing or disappointing in the NHL's 2024 pre-season?

The NHL waiver wire is really beginning to pick up as AHL training camps begin this week.

A total of 28 players were placed on waivers on Tuesday. They're all up for grabs by the other NHL teams for a period of 24 hours. Whoever is not claimed is eligible to be assigned to the minors.

Here's the list, based on announcements from NHL teams and reports from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and PuckPedia:

    • Carson Meyer, Anaheim Ducks
    • Josh Dunne, Mason Jobst, Brett Murray, Colton Poolman, Jack Rathbone, Felix Sandstrom, Buffalo Sabres
    • Ilya Solovyov, Calgary Flames
    • Collin Delia, Benjamin Gleason, Philip Kemp, Lane Pederson, Edmonton Oilers
    • Jacob Moverare, Los Angeles Kings
    • Reese Johnson, Minnesota Wild
    • Anton Blidh, Louis Domingue, Casey Fitzgerald, Brandon Scanlin, New York Rangers
    • Brandon Biro, Max McCormick, Ben Meyers, Gustav Olofsson, Mitchell Stephens and Ales Stezka, Seattle Kraken
    • Phillip Di Giuseppe, Nate Smith, Christian Wolanin and Jiri Patera, Vancouver Canucks

Di Giuseppe stood out on the list – he only played in the NHL last season, recording five goals and 10 points in 51 games played. But in 2022-23, he split his time between Vancouver and AHL Abbotsford, where he got 32 points in 37 games. The 30-year-old left winger has 282 career NHL games, with 27 goals, 48 assists and 75 points.

The Rangers' Domingue has played 198 career AHL games compared to 143 NHL games since the 2012-13 season. The goaltender entered the spotlight in the first round of the 2021-22 playoffs for the Pittsburgh Penguins after they dealt with injuries to Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith. He replaced DeSmith in double overtime of Game 1 against the Rangers and posted a 3.65 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in six games. On another note, the 32-year-old scored his first career goal to help AHL Hartford clinch a playoff spot. That said, he's played a combined five regular-season NHL games in the past five seasons.

Per Friedman, the 12 players placed on waivers yesterday all cleared, including Travis Boyd, Devin Shore and Brendan Gaunce on the Minnesota Wild, Connor Carrick on the Edmonton Oilers and Justin Bailey on the San Jose Sharks.
