    In their first season in their 'new' market, the Steelheads have made it known they have a run for the Memorial Cup in their sights.

    Here's how things work in junior hockey these days. You're either gunning for a championship or rebuilding and there seems to be no middle ground.

    If you're loading up, you deal all kinds of draft picks – many of which were procured during your rebuild – to a have-not team, which will then turn around in a couple of years and deal those picks to another rebuilding team.

    That's exactly what happened when the Brampton Steelheads acquired Seattle Kraken prospect and sniper Carson Rehkopf from the Kitchener Rangers for three second-round, three third-round, three fourth-round and a seventh-round pick. A 52-goal scorer last season, Rehkopf comes to Brampton with outstanding offensive credentials and will be a big part of Canada's offense in the 2025 World Junior Championship.

    And he'll have a great team around him in Brampton, one that has its sights set on a Memorial Cup run in 2024-25.
