All I ever hear from hockey people is how tough and resilient NHL players are, but all I ever see is how easily they’re offended. Throw a clean check at a star player? Be prepared to fight. Show up the opposition? Expect a cross-check. That’s The Code™. You know the one. Or perhaps you don’t because nobody can seem to adequately explain or justify it.

Was what Ridly Greig of the Ottawa Senators did Saturday night, taking a clap-bomb on an empty net, needless and immature? Definitely.

Was what Morgan Rielly of the Toronto Maple Leafs did, cross-checking Greig in the neck, over the top? Absolutely.

Grow up. Greig should have known better, and Rielly is going to sit for some games because he couldn’t get over himself.
