As a hockey writer, Ken Campbell has no dog in the fight for the 4 Nations Face-Off. But as a Canadian, this tournament and Canada-USA on-ice rivalry now mean even more.
Before the last few days, I viewed the 4 Nations Face-Off as a mid-season diversion. I thought it would provide some decent entertainment in the dog days of winter.
But after the news about the U.S. threatening tariffs on its northern neighbor and the flippant talk about making Canada the 51st state, I'll be cheering my lungs out for whoever is playing the Americans in that event.
Will it make a difference if Team USA loses? Of course not. But it will make people feel better.
