Carolina (32-27-5) at Washington (40-19-5), 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Alex Ovechkin is looking to add some

hardware to his already impressive trophy case this season.

Ovechkin will continue his quest for 50 goals when the

Washington Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday in a

    battle of Southeast Division rivals.

The 23-year-old Ovechkin is just four tallies away from reaching

the 50-goal mark for the third time in four NHL seasons. The

Russian also has a chance to score 60 goals for the second

    consecutive campaign.

The reigning Hart Trophy winner, Ovechkin is certainly a top

candidate to win the league's MVP award again and has a

commanding lead in the race for the Maurice Richard Trophy.

Ovechkin netted his league-leading 46th goal of the season

during Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Florida Panthers. He has scored

in seven of the last nine games.

The Hurricanes squandered a two-goal third-period advantage in

Saturday's 5-3 setback to the Atlanta Thrashers. Tuomo Ruutu

scored a goal and set up another and Eric Staal notched two

assists for Carolina, which had won five of its previous six

    contests.
