Panthers Sign Olympic Gold Medalist Petteri Lindbohm
The Florida Panthers have added some depth to the blueline.
The team announced on Monday that Petteri Lindbohm has been signed for the remainder of the season after his KHL team, Jokerit, pulled out of the KHL playoffs.
Lindbohm has to clear waivers to join the Panthers.
Lindbohm already has NHL experience, playing 40 games over four seasons with St Louis after the team drafted him in 2012. Lindbohm was part of a stout Finnish defense that helped to beat the Russian Olympic Committee 2-1 in the gold medal game of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games earlier this month.
The Panthers have been rumored to be in the trade market for defensemen for most of the season, and adding Lindbohm - a physical defenseman that can play a shutdown role and is reliable in his own zone - will give them more options to choose from on the team's upcoming playoff run.
