The Philadelphia Flyers will be without Carter Hart indefinitely after the goaltender requested a leave of absence.

In a statement on Tuesday attributed to Flyers GM Daniel Briere, Hart cited personal reasons for his request, which the club granted. The team added it will not comment further at this time.

Following the statement, Philadelphia recalled goaltender Cal Petersen from its AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Hart, 25, last played on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche and didn't play in Sunday's second game of a back-to-back versus the Ottawa Senators. The Sherwood Park, Alta., native has a 12-9-3 record with a 2.80 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and one shutout in 26 appearances this season.

This is Hart's sixth season playing for the Flyers since being drafted in the second round, 48th overall in 2016. In 227 career appearances, he has a 96-93-29 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and .906 save percentage with six shutouts.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound netminder is in the final season of a three-year contract worth $3.979 million annually. Hart will be an RFA upon expiry with arbitration rights if there's no contract extension beforehand – the team must provide a qualifying offer of $4.479 million by July 1 if it wants to keep his rights, according to PuckPedia.

The Flyers currently rank second in the Metropolitan Division with a 25-16-6 record ahead of Tuesday night's matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
