

Like meeting royalty and conducting yourself at a high-class dinner party, there are rules of etiquette for playing pickup and beer league hockey. Not many people know that.
So on Wednesday night, before potting a hat trick - I always start strong, then suck progressively as the season goes on - in my first pickup game of the season, I thought it would be a good time to give a refresher course on the finer points of playing really bad hockey with a bunch of other bad hockey players.
So, here are my dos and don'ts of pickup and beer league hockey, gleaned from years of playing at ungodly hours. The good thing is that I'm in my 60s, and my passion for playing is as evident as it was when I was 10. The bad thing is, so is my skill level.
