The Winnipeg Jets could soon part ways with center Pierre-Luc Dubois.

On Wednesday, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported that agent Pat Brisson informed Jets management that his client isn't inclined to sign a contract extension, not even to take him up to UFA status next summer.

Dubois turns 25 on June 24. He's an RFA this summer with arbitration rights coming off a one-year, $6-million contract. The two-way center has been the subject of trade speculation throughout this season.

LeBrun reported Brisson is willing to work with the Jets to find a trade for Dubois. He pointed out the club could also retain him for next season, attempt to bring him to arbitration, or shop him at the trade deadline but doesn't rule out a trade sometime this summer.

In his column for The Athletic, LeBrun mentioned the Montreal Canadiens remain interested in Dubois. They've been linked to the Jets center since Brisson mentioned in an interview last summer that his client wouldn't mind playing for the Habs one day. His colleagues Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin reported the Habs reached out to the Jets following the latter's first-round exit from the playoffs.

Sportsnet's Ken Wiebe thinks the Jets should let Brisson see if he can find some clubs that Dubois would be willing to sign with, as it could lead to a greater return.

Wiebe felt a bidding war could take place if Dubois is open to joining a club like the Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins or New York Rangers. However, the Jets won't have much leverage if he only wants to join the Canadiens.
