The National Hockey League announced its winner of the Jack Adam Award on Wednesday evening. Presented annually to the coach "adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success, as selected by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association."
Vancouver's Rick Tocchet was named this year's recipient following the 2023-24 season. The Canucks' 50-23-9 record (109 points) was good enough to get Tocchet a top-three selection on 109 of the 114 voting ballots submitted.
He took home 82 first-place votes for 483 points.
In second-place was Nashville's Andrew Brunette, who finished with 145 votes. Winnipeg's Rick Bowness was the third-place finisher, as his 75 points edged out New York's Peter Laviolette and Edmonton's Kris Knoblauch for third.
Bowness actually received five first-place votes, 11 second-place votes and 17 third-place votes, giving him 75 total points. But it wasn't close, and despite his team's strong 2023-24 record, Bowness didn't stand a chance - at least in the eyes of the NHL's Broadcasters' Association.
Another former Jets bench boss, Paul Maurice, also got some love in the voting, as he finished sixth with 20 total votes for 42 points.
Earlier this summer, Bowness announced his decision to retire from coaching. The Jets are currently amid an exhaustive search for the team's next head coach.
