On Sunday, the NHL and NHLPA announced in a joint statement that Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron will be stepping away from the team indefinitely as he enters the league's Player Assistance Program.
As per the terms of the agreement made by both the NHL and NHLPA, McCarron will continue to be paid while receiving treatment in the program and will return to on-ice activities with the Predators once he is cleared to do so.
As is the case with every player who enters this program, any further details will not be made available unless said player chooses to share them themself.
McCarron was drafted in the first round, 25th overall by the Montreal Canadiens back in 2013. After making only scant appearances in the NHL throughout his time in the Canadiens organization, McCarron was traded to the Predators midway through the 2019-20 season, logging a career-high of 51 games with the club last season.
In 15 games at the NHL level this season, McCarron sits with one goal and one assist for two points along with 17 penalty minutes.
Needless to say, the hockey world wishes McCarron the best in his treatment ahead.
