Scottish team wears awesome purple plaid, kilt-style jerseys

This past weekend was a celebration in Scotland for St. Andrew’s Day, and the EIHL’s Braehead Clan took the ice in style. Instead of wearing their normal jerseys, the Clan hit the ice decked out in purple plaid, kilt-themed attire. Nothing quite like beating an opponent while looking prepared to play the bagpipes.

Four of the EIHL’s clubs reside within Scotland, and one of those clubs, the Braehead Clan, pulled out special jerseys to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, a day of food, music and dance, this past weekend. As part of their celebration of the national holiday, Braehead hit the ice in amazing custom jerseys that were built to make each skater appear to be wearing a kilt. Complete with awesome purple plaid pants, socks and a sash across the jersey, they’re an absolutely incredible special event jersey. Take a look:

Braehead could have gone the easy route and wore a flag-style jersey, or, truthfully, they could have done nothing at all. But one of the greatest things about minor professional hockey is that the teams have fun with their threads, and the Clan's choice to go with the all-plaid ensemble was an excellent one. Among the former NHLers on Braehead are defensemen Ric Jackman and Nathan McIver, as well as forward Matt Keith. The Clan emerged from the St. Andrew’s Day contest with a 3-0 victory, and post-game the jerseys were auctioned off to fans in attendance. A portion of the winning bid was donated to Cancer Research UK and Yorkhill Children’s Charity. Braehead’s brilliant jerseys were a one-off, however, and the Warrior-designed jerseys aren't scheduled to see the light of day anytime soon. There’s always hope, though, that the Clan goes all out and makes the jersey a full-time home sweater. We're not sure how the fans would feel, but we'd be on board with that.
