A nightmare season in the nation's capital has now gotten even worse.

The Ottawa Senators kicked off their Monday morning with the last bit of news fans wanted to hear to begin their week, announcing forward Josh Norris will undergo surgery to repair a shoulder injury and has been ruled out of the remainder of the season.

The shoulder in question is the same one that caused Norris to miss 38 games earlier this season before returning to the Senators' lineup on Jan. 18. Unfortunately, Norris would ultimately only be able to suit up for three games following his return before feeling a "subluxation" in his shoulder that led to Monday's news.

It's a crushing blow to a Senators team that was waiting anxiously to plug Norris back into their revamped top six.

The 23-year-old will now end his season having played just eight games, in which he registered two goals and one assist for three points. Norris is in the first year of an eight-year contract extension he signed with the Senators this past summer, following a 2021-22 campaign in which he scored 35 goals, that will pay him an average of $7.95 million per season.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
