Dallas can add one more star to its collection.
Dallas Stars' GM Jim Nill has been named the winner of the 2022-23 Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award on Wednesday, with his win being announced on stage during the first round of the 2023 NHL draft in Nashville.
Nill is certainly no stranger to this honor, having wound up as a finalist for GM of the year on two previous occasions. Finally, the hockey lifer gets his win.
Under Nill, the Stars have transformed into one of the more consistent organizations in the NHL, making it to the Western Conference final twice in the past four seasons while also booking their ticket to the Stanley Cup final in 2020.
After parting ways with coach Rick Bowness over the off-season, Nill hired Pete DeBoer to command the Stars' bench moving forward in a move that has immediately paid off. The veteran coach led his club to its best regular-season finish since 2015-16, buoyed by the likes of Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger, whose contracts Nill re-upped last summer, as well.
Nill took home the award by beating out fellow finalists Don Sweeney of the Boston Bruins and Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers.
