A couple of forwards will soon change their addresses from Southern California to Northern Alberta.

The Edmonton Oilers acquired forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick from the Anaheim Ducks. They also receive a 2024 seventh-round pick and the rights to goaltender Ty Taylor as the result of a three-team trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Anaheim Ducks receive Edmonton's first-round pick in 2024 and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025, which becomes a fourth-rounder if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup this season.

Anaheim retained half of Henrique's $5.825-million cap hit before trading him to the Lightning to retain another quarter of Henrique's cap hit. The Lightning receive a conditional fourth-round pick in 2026 from Edmonton that turns into a 2025 fourth-rounder if the Oilers don't win the Cup.

Anaheim retained half of Carrick's $850,000 cap hit as well, so the Oilers only take on $425,000 of his contract and $1.456 million of Henrique's cap hit.

Before today, Henrique had been mentioned as potentially being on the move north to Edmonton. The 34-year-old center is having a productive season, putting up 42 points in 60 games this year while playing top-line minutes for the Ducks. While he's primarily been a center, he also has experience playing wing and could be an option on a line with Leon Draisaitl to help give more of a scoring presence. Or, depending on the need, he could add further depth down the middle as a No. 3 center.

Carrick comes to Edmonton as a depth addition to the roster. This season, the 32-year-old has recorded 11 points in 61 games. It's safe to assume he will spend time on Edmonton's fourth line.

Both Henrique and Carrick are pending UFA's, meaning both are likely rentals. It's a risk for the Oilers, but with Draisaitl coming due for a contract renewal next season and Connor McDavid the year after, they're going all-in.

The Ducks, meanwhile, now have a second first-rounder in the 2024 NHL draft as they continue to rebuild. They have seven picks in the first three rounds of this summer's draft to add onto their group of prospects and young NHLers, which include Leo Carlsson, Olen Zellweger, Pavel Mintyukov and Tristan Luneau.
