THN.com's QMJHL Logo Rankings
A mixed bag of old and new, the ‘Q’ boasts a few very nice logos and several confusing ones.
This league has more emblems that could be a matter of personal taste than any other circuit, perhaps because the new are so new and the old so old. It seems as though teams only change their looks if they move out of town.
Over the month of August, THN will rank the logos of 16 North American leagues. Click HERE to go to THN's Logo Rankings Central page and click HERE to vote for your top QMJHL logo as part of our tournament to discover the fans' choice for the top logo in hockey.
RK. | LOGO | TEAM | THE SCOOP |
1 |
Rimouski | It’s a battleship painted up like a shark, slashing through waves. Tough to beat that, even without the cool color scheme. |
2 |
Rouyn-Noranda | A baying husky, no more, no less. Looks great on a hat and doesn’t try to do too much. |
3 |
Acadie-Bathurst | This has warrior written all over it, with the Olde English font, Viking horns and shield. |
4 |
Saint John | One of the newer logos in the Q, nothing else looks like the sleek Sea Dog. |
5 |
Chicoutimi | More about the colors than anything, the ringed crown gives the fine lettering a boost. |
6 |
Baie-Comeau | How can you not like a team whose name translates to “Viking Ship” and delivers just that in its crest? |
7 |
Lewiston | He’s certainly a maniac and definitely unique. Plus, the stick forms an ‘L’ to go with the man’s ‘M’ body. Nice touch. |
8 |
Quebec | Going for an old-school flavor, the new Remparts take cues from their 1970s forebearers. |
9 |
Cape Breton | A lot of words on this emblem, but the eagle is daunting and it works. |
10 |
Gatineau | The flaming torch has a certain majesty to it and looks good on the front of a sweater. |
11 |
Val-d'Or | Classic and simple, or boring? The pick-axe/tree combination spurned a divisive debate. |
12 |
Drummondville | Slightly cartoonish, but still original, the Voltigeur falls in the middle of the pack. |
13 |
Shawinigan | The Cataractes have a mascot who is theirs alone; too bad it isn’t drawn a little better. |
14 |
Victoriaville | A lackluster tiger and part of an overwhelming legion of animals biting through sticks. |
15 |
Moncton | Not the greatest wildcat, plus it looks like it’s jumping out of the player’s chest on the jersey. |
16 |
PEI | Yeah, this team used to be in Montreal, making the Rocket Richard references (notice the comet-tail No. 9) cool, but Maurice never hung out with Anne of Green Gables. |
17 |
Halifax | For our American and international readers, Moosehead is a popular beer in Canada. The hockey team uses their corporate logo. |
18 |
Montreal | We know they were going for ‘simple,’ but this is non-existent. |
