The spoked-B is rolling back in time on new jerseys this season. The Boston Bruins unveiled three jerseys to celebrate their 100th-anniversary season in 2023-24 at their "Centennial Takeoff" ceremony inside a hangar at the Boston Logan Airport. “For reaching such a monumental milestone – our 100th year – we really wanted to do something special with the sweater,” said Bruins president Cam Neely in a statement. “We’re excited to introduce three bespoke jerseys, each featuring an original crest design as well as unique elements meant to honor a century of Bruins hockey.” As usual, the Bruins have a black home jersey and white away jersey. Each sweater features sparkling "Centennial gold," black and white stripes on the middle of the sleeves and near the hem. On the home jersey, the Bruins 'B' is Centennial gold, while it's black on the away, similar to the Bruins' crests from the late 1940s to 1995. A commemorative patch on the right shoulder puts the No. 100 inside the sideways-facing Bruins bear, which the team says is its oldest brand identifier, placed within the familiar arc and rectangle shape. On Saturday, it was revealed to be part of the team's home, away and alternate uniforms. The alternate jersey is expected to be worn for select matchups against Original Six clubs. The Bruins went with a "Bruins beige" base for the uniform. The crest features a gold 'B' with a "Bruins brown" hub and spoke. To mark the year the Bruins were founded, 19 and 24 sit on each side of the crest in gold. Boston also commemorated its six Stanley Cup championships on the inside of the collar. The modern spoked-B uniforms are taking a brief hiatus for the campaign. Boston's set to become the third franchise in NHL history to reach 100 years of existence, following two rivals to the north: the Montreal Canadiens in 2009 and the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017. Montreal and Toronto took different approaches to uniforms to celebrate their centennial. The Canadiens kept their regular uniforms but had 12 centennial jersey nights, with players wearing a different historic Montreal sweater each time. The Maple Leafs permanently changed their logo and jerseys, refreshing the "classic Maple Leaf" the team wore from the late 1930s to '60s, with a 31-pointed leaf instead of the 11-pointed crest they sported from the '60s to 2016. Speaking of points, the Bruins made NHL history when they recorded 135 points in 2022-23, the most ever in one season. Boston lost to the Florida Panthers in the first round of the playoffs, and captain Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci retired ahead of the new campaign, but the Bruins will look to start a new century on the right foot.
