Among the most notable names is Denis Malgin, a 25-year-old forward with nearly 200 NHL games under his belt who has split his big-league career between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Malgin is actually still under contract with the Leafs despite currently playing in the Swiss league, and last appeared for the club in 2019-20. Gaetan Haas also brings an NHL resume to the Swiss team this year, suiting up for 92 total games for the Edmonton Oilers between 2019-2021 before departing to Switzerland to play for Biel HC this summer. Sven Andrighetto joins Haas as another NHL alumnus in Switzerland's forward corps, with a team-leading 216 career games on his ledger, having last played for the Colorado Avalanche in 2018-19. And then there's Gregory Hoffmann, who played in the NHL this season with the Columbus Blue Jackets before ultimately having his contract terminated so he could return to his home country. With one of the most even playing fields in recent Olympic history, this year's gold medal will be anyone's to earn.
