Tumminia will remain in her role until the end of the PHF playoffs, taking place in late March. Tumminia originally joined the PHF, then named NWHL, after becoming the chairman of the expansion Toronto Six in 2020. Last October of 2020, the PHF named Tumminia as interim commissioner before dropping the interim tag in August of 2021. “She informed the board back in January she would not be seeking renewal of her contract,” Marek told Hockey Night in Canada. “I talked to Tumminia this morning and she said, ‘Look, I’m committed to the PHF all through the playoffs.’ A reason for the decision was not announced. The PHF announced a $25-million investment in mid-January, allowing the league's salary cap to rise from $300,000 to $750,000 while giving players full healthcare benefits and a 10 percent equity into the teams. Montreal has been named as an expansion team with an American team to be added as well. Last month, Alex Sinatra was let go as the executive director of the PHF's Players’ Association less than a month into taking the job.
