However, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, Montreal Canadiens blueliner Jeff Petry and New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov were not among those on the move. Chychrun, Petry and Varlamov were subjects of considerable media trade conjecture leading up to deadline day. So why didn't they change teams on deadline day? In Chychrun's case, it was the high asking price set by Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong. He based his decision on the veteran's performance and how well he and young starter Ilya Sorokin get along. Varlamov is signed through 2022-23 with a $5.2 million cap hit. Chychrun and Petry are likely to surface in this summer's trade rumor mill.
